Compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75 percent less energy while outputting more light than incandescent light bulbs. According to Lipford, they’re also safer.
Using timers on appliances like lamps and heaters will save even more energy.
Insulate your home from heat or cool air loss with caulk, fiberglass, foam, or cellulose. You can even insulate with old denim, recycled with a Borate solution.
Consider replacing existing toilets and showerheads with low-flow models. Hands-free faucets will also save energy, as well as prevent the spread of germs.
